Profitability
Alpacas as an investment
Alpacas are considered a good investment all over the world. The initial investment is relatively high, but the expenses that arise later are low and if the alpacas are good quality, the increase in value and return on them is high.
High quality – in terms of both fibre and exterior of the fleece – attract premium prices on the world market. Alpaca fleece ranks among the most precious natural fibres alongside cashmere and silk. Its softness, fineness, and indescribable brilliance have made it so treasured. Today, alpaca fibre comes in a beautiful range of natural colours - white, silver, all shades of grey and fawn, chocolate brown and true jet-black.
Exclusive alpaca females are traded no less than €5,000. The average price for pregnant females of the same age is approximately €12,000.
Prices will probably rise over the next few years because despite rising demand, the supply will stay limited on account of the long gestation periods and the relatively difficult import situation. The market development in other countries has shown a very continuous and stable upward trend of average prices and quality of alpacas. In addition, there are new alpaca growers every year in many European countries, leading to potential returns of 20-70% right here in Europe.
